Secretly, while the mom-to-be is opening her gifts, have someone jot down a bunch of the things she says as she’s exclaiming over the items (like “Oh, it’s adorable!” “Green is such a great color!” “I’ll definitely get a lot of use out of this!”).

After all the gifts have been opened, announce that it’s a little-known fact that the things a pregnant woman says as she’s opening baby gifts are the very same things she said when the baby was conceived. Then read back the quotes and enjoy the laughs. (If the father-to-be is there, he’ll especially appreciate hearing “Look how tiny it is!”)

I’ve heard this several times, but it is always at a lingerie shower for a bride-to-be, never at a baby shower.

The hostess secretly writes down what the bride says as she opens each lingerie item “It’s so soft!” “Oh, it has polka-dots!” “What would my mom think?” etc. At the end of the night, after all the gifts have been opened, the hostess reads back what the bride said, prefacing it with “This is what (bride) will say on the wedding night…”!

If there is a way to adapt this for a baby shower, I’ve never heard of it.
