What to spend on a baby shower gift

by Patty

A family member is having an shower really soon. Money is really tight but we would still like to get the mom-to-be something. What seems to be the right amount to spend without seeming too cheap?

Interesting question

Hi Patty,

This is a very interesting question. Money is tight for all of us these days. I do not think you should worry about how much the gift costs because it’s the thought that counts.

You can always go to a department store, such as Target, and get all sorts of inexpensive gifts. Here are a few suggestions:

-Pack of diapers and wipes

-A couple bottles of baby wash and/or lotion

-An outfit

-A pack of onesies or booties

-Feeding supplies (bottle, nipples, baby cereal)

These gifts may seem cheap but they will come in handy. I always tell people to focus on getting gifts that the parents will get good use from.

Don’t worry about getting that expensive baby stuff that is not necessary.
