Shower Brunch

I’m hosting a brunch open house shower for 3 hours on a weekend morning. Guests are all ages and mostly couples. No games-just good food and visiting with the parents to be who live out of town. Must the gifts be opened. We prefer not to, but if it seems a must–when would it be done? No one will stay for the whole time and it seems rude to grab the gift and open it! Any suggestions?
