Second baby shower for Sister in Law

by Eve Tschantz

(Chagrin Falls Ohio USA)

My sister in law has a 5 year old son. She is having her 2nd child and it is a girl and she wants to have a baby shower. My other sister in law had one baby and one shower. My other sister in law had six children and one shower. So my other sister in laws don’t think it is right that the other have a second baby shower. Which her sister in law wants to make. What is the etiquette on having other baby showers? Do you have a baby shower for each child. I have never seen this before. I was unable to have children so I don’t know what to do. My other sister in laws are very upset and think the one that is having the baby is being selfish.

Have a baby sprinkle

by: Sonya

Hi Eve,

Thanks for submitting your question. This is a very common etiquette question. My suggestion is to have a “baby sprinkle” for your sister in law, instead of a baby shower. A baby sprinkle is a toned down version of a baby shower in which most guests bring small gifts instead of the big stuff that the mom already has.

I think it’s appropiate to have a celebration for each child, no matter how many the parents have. All babies should be celebrated. If your other sisters-in-law are not happy with this, you should not let that affect the main goal here, which is to celebrate the new baby.

I would definitely go ahead with a celebration and hopefully everyone will put all the pety stuff behind them.

Hope everyting works out and thanks for submitting your question.
