Received an emailed baby registry but no shower invite?

by Ami

(Seattle, WA)

Has something changed? I just received an email from my brother’s wife (whom lives far away & is emotional “distant” as well) but all that was in the email was her baby registry info. It was sent only to me but still didn’t have so much as a hi. Is it customary for people to get registry info this way? And no invite to a shower (not sure if she’s having one). Is the expectation that we are required to give a gift?
Please help me know what to do or how to respond.

No, this is not customary at all

I have never heard of someone doing this before. Usually the registry info is included in the baby shower invitation.

I would call and ask why you didn’t get an invitation. This may sound a little intrusive, but it was even more intrusive for them to request a gift without sending you an invite. And on top of that, all you got was a simple email.

Maybe she’s not having a shower but she is still requesting gifts. Or there may be some other valid reason for the email. But to know for sure, I would just call and ask what the reason was behind that.
