What do you do for someone who organizes your baby shower?

A friend is organizing a baby shower for my husband and me. Is it recommended I buy a gift for her for courtesy?

A lot of people like to buy something for their baby shower hostess, but it is not necessary. The hostess usually takes responsibility for the party because she wants to, not because she is looking for something in return. So, I would say, give her something if you desire to do so, but do not feel obligated.
