Should the mother-in-law be invited?

by Lesia
(IL)

I, the mother of the the mom-to-be, am hosting a baby shower for my daughter. Her mother-in-law will also be hosting a shower for her a week later. Should I invite her mother-in-law to my shower even though she's hosting her own a week later? We're having separate showers due to the number of guests on each side of the family.

Yes, you should invite her, and she should invite you to the shower she is throwing as well.

I actually think in this case, it would have been better if both you and the mother-in-law joined forces and threw one big shower. But, since you have already decided to have 2 separate parties, just to be courteous, she should be invited.
