long distance baby shower

How to get friends and relatives to participate in a long distance baby shower whereupon the mother to be is too far away to attend. MY son and daughter in law live in Idaho. I am the mother in law, this is our first grandchild, my husband and I are new to North Carolina and most of our friends and relatives live in New England and we are very limited financially. Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.
