Hand me down baby stuff

by Anonymous

Is it okay to give used stuff as baby shower gifts? I’m going to a shower in a few weeks and I have tons of newborn clothes, plush toys and crib sheets that I don’t need anymore (I had a baby about 1 year ago). They are all in good condition. Can I use them as my gift, or should I just buy something and also give her my old baby stuff? Will she even want the stuff since it’s used? We are pretty good friends so she should be comfortable with accepting my used stuff.

ask first

i think a new baby requires a new baby gift, not used items. If she’s a good friend, ask her if she’d like the used things and do it before the shower–then she’ll know what she still needs. Giving used things is a very nice gesture between friends–we all do it–but not as a shower gift.

I think this is fine

I think it’s perfectly fine, especially since you guys are good friends. I don’t think there is a need to buy a new gift in addition to giving her your old stuff. Seems like you know her personality well enough to decide if she will be okay with getting used, but in good condition stuff.
