Giving money at a baby shower

My Niece sent me an invitation to her baby shower. This is her first child, we are not close and do not live in the same state. Is it ok to send her money instead of purchasing a gift? If so what would you advise the amount be?

Give her a gift card instead of money NEW

Money is a perfectly good gift for a baby shower, but do it in the form of a gift card. Stores like Target and Babies R Us are good places to purchase baby shower gift cards. I would suggest nothing less than $20, and go as high as you want. But if you decide to stay in the $20 range, don't think that this is too little. $20 can go a long way at a reasonably priced store. Just stay within your budget.
