i was recently at my nieces baby shower, the next day she was taking back gifts she got, and these were not duplicates. the gifts she took back will be things she will need when the baby is 5 or 6 months old, she said she took them back to get other things she needs now and will ask for the things she took back for christmas presents. i was really upset over what she done. is this not poor etiquette or have times changed?

This is poor etiquette

Yes, I would have to agree with you. I think it is a bit inconsiderate to return those gifts and then ask the guests to re-purchase them later on. Usually, people are happy to receive gifts that they can use for the baby months down the line, even if the baby is not born yet.

I understand that she needs stuff now, but if she has to resort to returning her gifts to get what she needs now, then she should take it upon herself to re-purchase all the items she will be returning.

If I were a guest and she asked me to buy her another gift for Christmas, especially if it's the same thing I already bought for her, I would be upset. That is asking for too much.
