I personally think it would have been a good idea to have the b-day party and baby shower all in one. This would have been easier for everyone involved. But, since they will be 2 separate celebrations, I would choose a theme that could be suitable for both. Maybe the "diva or girlfriends" theme, or something "luau" or "safari" party if it's co-ed. For whatever theme you choose, use the same decorations for both parties, but just add some baby stuff for the shower - baby balloon bouquets, a diaper cake instead of an edible cake, and give away themed party favors. To save money, do not give away party favors for the b-day party, especially if you are having the same guest list for both. Your guests don't need 2 party favors. If you still have time, I would strongly suggest that you consider have both parties in one. That way, your guests wont have to be out for 2 occasions on the same day, and you (whoever is hosting) will not have to worry about throwing 2 parties in the same day. I think it would just be a lot easier.
